Amble-based Cheviot Foods Ltd, a private label potato speciality manufacturer, is the Northumberland port’s largest employer and a leading supplier to the UK retail market. 

Despite its positive order situation, firm market position and strong management team, the company had to enter into administration on 30 September 2008, due to cash flow pressures, resulting from unprecedented inflation of energy and raw material prices. 

Following their appointment as Joint Administrators, Nick O’Reilly and Geoff Rowley of FRP Advisory LLP, worked closely with the new management team, Northumberland County Council, Alnwick District Council and One North East, to help secure a management-funded buy-out, after the sale of the business to a division of Country Chef Limited had failed to complete. 

After obtaining third party investment, the management team was able to acquire the business, safeguarding the future of this local firm and the jobs of its 200 employees. 

Equipped with new operative leeway, the new management team could then focus on consolidating the business and start investing in its future.
