FRP Advisory appointed Administrators to Golden Slumbers Ltd
10 August 2011
Golden Slumbers Ltd, which owns and operates Rosedene Residential Care Home in Margate and Jeanette Lodge in Gillingham, entered administration on 18 July with the appointment of Chris Stevens and Ian Vickers, partners at specialist restructuring, recovery and insolvency firm FPR Advisory LLP, as Joint Administrators.
Rosedene Residential Care Home continues to operate as normal, while a buyer is sought to purchase the business and assets. However due to severe financial difficulties, Jeanette Lodge in Gillingham is in the process of being closed in an orderly manner with the assistance of Medway Council and Kent County Council.
Commenting on the case, Joint Administrator Chris Stevens said: "Rosedene Residential Care Home is a well-run care home and we are confident of identifying a suitable buyer. Unfortunately due to a sustained period of critical cash flow difficulties, Jeanette Lodge is not able to continue operating. Sadly all seventeen members of staff will be made redundant, and we are working closely with Medway Council, families and other stakeholders to ensure the timely and sensitive re-accommodation of the home's twelve residents."
Nine of Jeanette Lodge's residents are funded by Medway Council, one resident is funded by Kent County Council and two fund their own care.
David Quirke-Thornton, Assistant Director of Adult Social Care at Medway Council, said: "Moving residents from a care home is something we would never take lightly. We shall ensure this is carried out in a dignified manner in order to minimise the disruption and worry residents and their families go through.
"Staff and families were told about this on Monday and the council has offered all families the opportunity to meet our adult social care team this week to discuss options.
"Despite the financial difficulties at the care home, members of staff have continued to provide a high level of support and care. It is a shame that this closure now means these dedicated staff will unfortunately be made redundant."
