It’s national Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 1 October 2010 – please pledge your support for this worthy cause!

24 September 2010

Jeans for Genes Day is an annual fundraising event that invites everybody to wear their jeans to work or school in return for a donation towards the Charity.

Jeans for Genes is a national children’s charity which raises money for the care of children and families who are affected by genetic disorders. It also supports ground-breaking research into the causes and cures for these disorders.

Genetic disorders affect 1 in 25 children born in the UK and conditions include cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anaemia and muscular dystrophy. More than half of all childhood deaths in the UK are related to genetic conditions.

The money raised by Jeans for Genes Day is distributed among charities that provide care services for children living with a genetic condition, information and support for families, and those that fund research projects.

FRP Advisory, a national restructuring, recovery and insolvency firm, is just one of the companies already signed up to support Jeans for Genes Day on 1 October.

Nicki Adderson, who works at FRP Advisory’s office in Hornchurch, explains how important the Charity is in helping to raise money for the care of children and families who are affected by genetic disorders:

"My son, Scott, is 14 years old and suffers from curvature of the spine. He needs to attend regular hospital appointments and, in the next few months, he will undergo another operation.

"The money raised by Jeans for Genes Day is so important to families like ours, because it helps to support us now and, through the research which the Charity funds, we are given hope for the future."

The Charity also aims to raise awareness and understanding of genetics and what it means to live with a genetic disorder. It provides educational materials for schools and runs a speaker programme which offers free talks to schools taking part in the Day.

Now in its 15th year, Jeans for Genes Day has so far raised £35m to fund the care that children, like Scott, need today, and the research that could change their futures.

Jeans for Genes Day is asking everyone to wear their jeans to work or school in return for a donation at www.jeansforgenesday.com. Please don’t forget to get involved and to support this worthy cause!
