Lammas School Saved by Parents and Business Angel
2 July 2010
Joint Administrator of The Lammas School, Chris Stirland, a partner at restructuring, recovery and insolvency firm, FRP Advisory LLP, has agreed the sale of the business to a joint venture comprising a group of parents and the business angel JWL Ventures Ltd.
The Lammas School entered into administration on 12 May 2010 with the aim of continuing to trade the business, enabling pupils to complete important GCSE exams, while the business was marketed to potential buyers. With the support of parents and teachers, Joint Administrator Chris Stirland was able to conclude the sale, safeguarding the school’s future.
Commenting on the sale, Chris said: “This is a genuine good news story and an excellent example of parent power. The parents firmly believed that the school was worth fighting for and, together with JWL Ventures Ltd, have raised sufficient funds not only to buy the business, but also to undertake a significant investment in the school’s facilities and resources over the summer holidays. A reinvigorated school will be re-launched in September.
"The teachers and parents of The Lammas School have given outstanding support to the school throughout this difficult period and we thank them for their vision and determination. I would like to wish them and their partner, JWL Ventures Ltd, every success for the future"
Going forward, the school will be operated by Lammas School Ltd.
