“You Never Know What’s Around the Corner”: Jon Rees on Recovery, Creativity, and the Power of Showing Up

In a world that often overlooks the quiet resilience of those rebuilding their lives, Jon Rees’ story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when creativity meets courage. In the latest episode of the Mind.Set Podcast, Jon shares his extraordinary journey from childhood trauma and street homelessness to a life rooted in art, and healing, with Jon now working as an arts facilitiator and therapist at FRP London’s charity partner, The Connection.

Having worked with The Connection, we’ve seen the firsthand stress being put on services to support people experiencing homelessness, exacerbated by a living crisis, and the often complex needs of those experiencing homelessness. More investment is needed in holistic healing therapies and Jon’s story is a much needed reminder of the importance of art, nature and creativity on the road to recovery and managing our mental health day-to-day.

His message is clear: “You never know what’s around the corner.” Whether it’s recovery, creativity, or connection, Jon’s story is a testament to the power of showing up, asking for help, and doing things badly – until you can do them well.
